Holy Family Classical School is happy to announce officially that it is now a partner school with Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH, a Newman Guide listed university whose mission overlaps with our own.
A key part of this partnership is the “High School Advantage Program” which allows “students [to] earn credit by taking courses at their high school that are aligned with Franciscan University’s curriculum and successfully completing college-level examinations. These courses are taught in the student’s own classrooms by their high school teachers so that students earn both high school and college credit.”
In the inaugural year of our relationship the following HFCS classes have been approved with their FUS equivalents: (with zero modification to HFCS syllabi and sequences)
Theology IV = THE 115 Christian Moral Principles (3 college credit hours)
English III = ENG 210 Epic and the Person (3 college credit hours)*
CP Chemistry = CHM 110 & 115 Lab Chemistry (4 college credit hours)
Latin III = LAT 104 Introductory Studies in Latin II (3 college credit hours)
*ENG210 requires knowledge of texts read in English I, II, & III at Holy Family. Dr. Grabowski will help review these texts for the FUS midterm and final exams.
Any Junior or Senior 16 years or older with a 2.4 GPA in one or several of these classes may enroll at Franciscan University through this partnership. Credits are $150. (e.g. A student enrolling for Latin III will pay a total of $450 for this full college course).
- Classes are taught over the full year rather than in a collegiate semester by our HFCS teachers.
- The only academic obligation for FUS is a midterm exam, given in January and a final exam given in May.
- The student’s FUS grade will be determined by these two assessments alone
- The student’s HFCS high school grade is determined by the HFCS teacher
- Students and HFCS teachers will have access to online study guides to help prepare more specifically for the FUS midterm and final
- The last day to officially drop courses at FUS is Wednesday, January 20, 2027. This allows for 100% refund and no record on transcripts. In other words, students may take the midterm and determine whether to complete the class based on the results.
